day two – after a wonderful sleep in a cosy motel we were ready and waiting for our host and friend Twyla to arrive… her friend Nancy had come to share the drive and keep us all awake and attempt to find out the update of survivor for the crows…

first stop after loading the truck with our 14 bags was the best antique store we have ever seen – the Painted Door.. we were almost in tears having to be so strong but yes, purchases were made…. Deirdre got a radio flyer – at the first stop!

Second stop was Calico Hutch at Haywood – a little insignificant looking shed but wait til you get inside – it keeps going and going and some lovely ladies to chat to – what quilters aren’t lovely?

Next stop brought more tears for D.crow as we arrived at her idols and mentors Country Threads in Iowa – this shop is on Marys farm at Garner in Iowa. Mary came out to greet us with her new baby goat – Betsy – now Mary is a complete animal lover and there are 7 fat cats, several dogs, many goats and many many chickens sharing her farm and quilt shop – but we were there of course for the quilts – an inspiration and an iconic business…. Mary also showed us their barn where they hold retreats and we shared some kettle corn made there in the garage..

Next was another antique barn before hitting the road home to Brandon South Dakota. But not before a little stop at Clearlake to get a pic for my dad of Buddy Holly’s last gig venue – the night before that fateful plane trip…

a couple more hours and we arrived in the little town of Brandon South Dakota…

more to come..

hugs, Helen
